Four Dead and Sixteen Injured as Medusa Beach Club Roof Collapses

Palma de Mallorca, Spain - May 2024

Four people have been confirmed dead and sixteen injured after the roof of Medusa Beach Club, a popular beachside restaurant in Palma de Mallorca, collapsed on Thursday evening.

The two-story restaurant, located in one of the busiest areas of the regional capital, was packed with customers at the time of the collapse, which occurred at around 9 pm local time. The injured, including several with serious injuries, were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest a structural failure may have been to blame. The building, which was built in the 1960s, had recently undergone renovations.

The Medusa Beach Club was known for its stunning views of the Bay of Palma and was a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. The collapse has shocked the community and has raised concerns about the safety of similar structures in the area.

Local authorities have cordoned off the area while an investigation into the cause of the collapse is carried out. Officials have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and have pledged to provide support to those affected by the tragedy.
