73m In Fema Aid Comes To Kaufman County

$7.3M In FEMA Aid Comes To Kaufman County

Helping Texas Recover From Winter Storm

Kaufman County is getting a helping hand from FEMA in the wake of Winter Storm Uri. The county was one of 162 in Texas that was declared a federal disaster area after the storm wreaked havoc in February 2021. Just over $7.3 million in federal aid is on the way to help Texans recover from the storm.

Where The Money Is Going

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell explained the money would go toward a host of programs to help individuals and communities recover, including:

  • Housing assistance
  • Disaster unemployment assistance
  • Crisis counseling
  • Legal services
  • Transportation assistance
  • Child care assistance

Individuals who sustained losses in the storm can apply for FEMA assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA mobile app.

FEMA Continues To Assist Texas

FEMA continues to work with state, local, and tribal officials in Texas to coordinate disaster relief efforts. The agency has already provided more than $3 billion in disaster assistance to Texas, including more than $2 billion for housing assistance.

“FEMA is committed to helping Texas recover from this devastating winter storm,” said Criswell. “We will continue to work with our state, local, and tribal partners to ensure that all eligible Texans receive the assistance they need.”

Other Resources For Storm Survivors

In addition to FEMA assistance, there are other resources available to help storm survivors. The state of Texas has set up a website with information on disaster recovery resources, including financial assistance, housing assistance, and mental health services. The website can be found at https://www.texas.gov/disasters.

The Salvation Army is also providing assistance to storm survivors. The organization is providing food, water, and shelter to those in need. More information about the Salvation Army’s disaster relief efforts can be found at https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/disaster-services.
