San Francisco Giants Sign Matt Chapman to Extension

Giants Acquire All-Star Third Baseman for Long Term

Chapman Inks 2-Year Deal Worth $25 Million

The San Francisco Giants have signed third baseman Matt Chapman to a two-year, $25 million contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Chapman, 29, was acquired by the Giants in a trade with the Oakland Athletics in March. He is a three-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star.

In 2022, Chapman batted .277 with 27 home runs and 84 RBIs. He also led all major league third basemen with 15 defensive runs saved.

Extension Details

The extension includes a player option for the 2025 season. If Chapman exercises the option, he will receive a $12.5 million salary in 2025.

The deal also includes a full no-trade clause.

Giants' Commitment to Chapman

The Giants' decision to extend Chapman's contract is a sign of their commitment to building a contender.

Chapman is a key part of the Giants' young core, which also includes shortstop Brandon Crawford, outfielder Joc Pederson, and pitcher Logan Webb.

With Chapman under contract through at least 2024, the Giants have a solid foundation in place as they look to compete for a World Series title.

Chapman's Impact on the Giants

Chapman has been a key contributor to the Giants' success since joining the team in March.

He has provided a strong presence at third base both offensively and defensively.

Chapman's extension is a major boost for the Giants, and it should help them remain competitive in the NL West for years to come.
